You will also have to take into account the actual type size of the keyword and whether it is in bold face or it is italicized.  The use of the keyword in the page title is also expected to play an important role in the calculation of the position of the web page in the SERPs when a person uses a search engine to conduct a research on your targeted keyword.  An important rule to follow when using the SEO keyword density strategy is to focus only on one keyword, especially if it is very competitive.  

You will also need to pay attention to the title of each web page, making sure that they contain the most important keyword.  It is also advisable to have a site map that connects the different supporting web pages to the main page.  You will also have to make sure that the anchor text for each of the links going to the main page have the targeted keyword.  Lastly, you must have linking partners who are willing to add to their own websites those links that guide their visitors to your main page.
